Fan-Created Pokémon

Note: Below are the five fan-created Pokémon you'll need to know about in this game. Each bears two names: its name according to Yuni legend (the two-word name) and the name the White settlers know it as (which are usually part of an overall Yuni description). Additionally, because there are no TM/HM devices at this time, there are likewise none listed in the following entries. Everything else is self-explanatory.

Storm Eagle/"Soona"
Based on the Rain Bird and the Ani Hyuntikwalaski, Storm Bird is a legendary eagle said to be able to, with one cry, bring storm clouds rolling from every horizon. Its wing beats are said to create the sound of thunder and the gales of tornadoes, and when it molts, its feathers transform into bolts of lightning. It has no true name (other than Storm Eagle) to the native people, although the settlers have, as a result of a dreadful mistranslation, assumed that the natives call her Soona. In actuality, this is the latter part of the word for "storm" and the first part of the word "comes" in their language, making it actually a rather apt description.

She is believed to be one of several direct children of the Mother Goddess, a figure (ironically often depicted as an arachnid woman) named as the entity responsible for the creation of the world. However, unlike her brothers and sisters who are free to roam all of creation, it is said that Soona is bound to the land of her birth -- that is, Blanca. According to legend, Soona lies in a deep sleep in her nest (after having not slept for thirty years straight while being chased from her cloud palace by Ho-oh), although when one dream ends and before another begins, she comes extremely close to awakening. This occurs on only one month a year, and this month marks not only the middle of the winter season but also the only month when rain actually falls within the region. (Rainfall does not occur continuously, although when it begins, it tends to continue for a full day, followed by a day or two of cloudy weather.) She will only fully awaken at the end of the world, when her presence will bring continuous rainfall. At first, such an occurrence will be taken as a blessing meant to quench the dry lands, but soon after, the rainfall will flood first the region and then the rest of the world, and all will return to the black waters of the Dark Lake from which everything was born.

Stats—

Name: Soona
Type: Ghost
Species: Tempest
Height: 6'09"
Weight: 146 lbs.
Gender Ratio: 100% female
Ability: Forecast
Natural Habitat: Formerly (according to legend) the clouds. Currently Sacred Ground. Location and conditions of this area are unknown.
Behavior: Although typically a finicky and proud bird, Soona spends much of her time in slumber. However, if awakened, she can attack in a vengeful rage that may last for anywhere from a few minutes to several days. Afterwards, she tends to be a serious creature and hunter by nature – not one to easily trust nor forgive.

Signature Attack: Dead Storm
Soona extends both of her wings and cranes her neck skyward as she opens her beak to release a bone-chilling half screech, half song. Clouds immediately roll in from all directions as the air ripples. Then, from small vortexes that appear in the air, wisp-like birds (also perceived as winged ghosts or, according to Yuni legend, wind spirits) emerge from the spiritual plane to the plane of the living and swirl around Soona as her song reaches its highest note and as the winds on the battlefield pick up. Just when both are at their peaks, Soona stops singing, the spirits vanish, and the wind stops blowing. Several seconds of silence pass before a sudden gust of white wind slams into the opponents and lifts them into the air (if they already aren't). White hands emerge and claw at the victims to drain their energies as the wind passes into a large vortex – the portal to the Spirit World – that swirls above them. Once the wind passes, the opponent is left to plummet to the ground below… if they haven't be swept into the Spirit World as well.

Researchers' Entry:
A legendary bird credited with creating storms with a single thought. It is said that she only awakens from her deep sleep once a year to bring a storm to an otherwise dry region.

Description/Image: A pure-white bird with bright, blue eyes and silver feet and beak. Her build is much like a golden eagle's, save for the long tail feathers that seem to meander into a trail of mist.

River Snake/"Hyuni"
Before Soona descended into Sacred Ground to begin her near-eternal sleep, she created four guardians from four pieces of Blanca to protect her from her brothers and sisters. She called the first of these guardians from the waters that ran through and under the region, which twisted and wound around the dry earth. From this water came a snake (naturally), the incarnation of the raging waters themselves, fed by Soona's own rain.

According to legend, River Snake is known for controlling water, using it to strike like a rattlesnake bite before lashing out with his own head. Normally, however, he's a wily but serious creature, prone to calculate and strategize (or hiss and intimidate) more than make the first strike. He is not, however, evil in any way. Simply not one who likes to be bothered.

Name: Hyuni
Type: Water
Species: Rapids
Height: 21'06"
Weight: 447 lbs.
Gender Ratio: 100% male
Ability: Pressure
Natural Habitat: The rivers and lakes of Blanca, including all underground systems. Basically, if there's water, then Hyuni might be there. Legend states that he makes his nest specifically at the end of Lapis River, the location of which is unknown.
Behavior: The serious member of the four guardians, Hyuni spends most of his time on his duty. He typically tends to be aloof and will usually refuse to associate with other living creatures unless it's absolutely necessary. In addition, he prefers to stick to strategy, landing strikes only from the best launch point, during the best opportunity. For this reason, he prefers attacking from a distance (or defending himself) but can be a deadly opponent either way.

70: Crunch
80: Dragon Dance
90: Aura Sphere

Signature Attack: Deep Water
With a hiss, Hyuni rises until he sits straight into the air. His eyes begin to glow with a bright, emerald light as the ground begins to rumble. Lifting his tail, he shakes his sapphire rattle as the water molecules in the air and/or the water underground (depending on the arena) gather towards the victim. Then, he slams his tail into the ground, and the water bursts from the air or from the splitting ground, quickly filling the arena. (If it's an outdoor arena, the area is defined by Hyuni, who envelops both himself and his opponent in a bubble of water.) Thus, the move produces three effects. First, the opponent is slammed unexpectedly with a torrent of water. Second, the arena becomes submerged, with no air pockets left for the opponent to breathe. Third, the arena remains that way for the remainder of the battle, which would likely be when the opponent runs out of air and subsequently drowns.
Type: Water | Damage Type: Special | PP: 5 | Acc: 80% | Power: N/A | Effects: Submerges the arena, doubling the power of all Water-type moves and halving the power of Fire-type moves for a period of five turns. Also, an OHKO move.

Researchers' Entry:
Called the Guardian of Water in Yuni legend. His temperamental nature reflects the rivers that run through Blanca – quick and often dangerous in the hotter months.

Description/Image: Aside from his emerald eyes, the impressive length of Hyuni's body is covered in blue scales – dark blue diamonds on a light blue background running down his back and pale blue plates covering his front. Partway down his length, his body fades into translucent sapphire that, if touched, often feels cold and wet (but can't quite be described as pure water). Rarely, he opens his mouth, but when he does, he reveals a forked, blue tongue and sharp, white fangs several feet in length.

Shira/"Wind Wren"
The second of the four guardians was called forth from the howling winds that blew across the desert. Using her great wings, Soona molded this wind into her first daughter, a likeness of herself. The gray-winged Wind Wren immediately took to the skies over her mother, and from then on, the Yuni had their trickster goddess.

Playful and clever, Shira became a prominient figure in Yuni legend, more so than even her own brothers and sisters. They say she wanders wherever she pleases and that the wind changes with her moods. Good moods mean warm zephyrs and calm days. Bad moods mean tornadoes and brutal dust storms.

Name: Shira
Type: Flying
Species: Zephyr
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 121 lbs.
Gender Ratio: 100% female
Ability: Pressure
Natural Habitat: The peaks of the Silver Mountains, providing she actually lands.
Behavior: The strange but clever one of the group, Shira mostly separates herself from the other guardians, opting to observe Blanca from above and occasionally playing tricks on unsuspecting Yuni villagers (tricks that are later incorporated as folktales such as "How Wind Wren Stole the Sun"). However, despite her mischievous nature, Shira will never intentionally harm a soul and is generally a gentle creature who honors the hero-warriors of Yuni legend. On the other hand, she does have a temper that flares whenever a human attempts to capture her… or when she and Hyuni (her direct opposite) come to a strong disagreement.

60: Aeroblast
70: Razor Wind
80: Amnesia
90: Aura Sphere

Signature Attack: Hurricane
Shira extends her wings and rises several feet into the air. Whipping her wings back and forth, she generates a strong gust of wind and calls forth dark clouds from every corner of the field. The opponent is lifted into the air by the force of these winds and, for the first turn, is simply suspended in the air along wind currents nearing a couple hundred miles per hour, rendering any attempt at fighting back practically useless. Above, the clouds form a swirl, essentially a miniature hurricane cloud. In the second turn, the winds whip faster, and both Shira and the opponent disappear into the storm clouds. Seconds later, Shira ceases to beat her wings, and the wind dies enough to allow the opponent to drop to the ground below.
Type: Flying | Damage Type: Special | PP: 5 | Acc: 90% | Power: 100 | Effects: Two-turn attack. In the first turn, Shira charges the move, and the opponent flinches. In the second, Shira does damage.

Researchers' Entry:
Known to the Yuni as the Guardian of the Wind. Legend has it that Shira's eccentric behavior is often to blame for Blanca's erratic dust storms.

Description/Image: A deceptively cute bird, Shira is a small and plump bird bearing a striking likeness to her real-world counterpart. Her golden eyes bear only a blank expression, and from her small, brown beak often comes a cheerful little song. The rest of her body is covered in brown feathers (including three long tail feathers), with a snow-white underside that is, upon closer inspection, not much more than a cloud through which her brown feet poke. Around her neck is a soft ring of clouds that stick out more than her front clouds, and on her head is a crest of white fluff.

Fiori/"Fire Stag"
When the heat of the sun touched her wings, Soona flapped them once to send a wildfire across the desert brush. From these flames sprang the third guardian, Fiori the Fire Stag, an antlered creature faster and fiercer than any other Pokémon that roamed Blanca.

Much like his brother Hyuni, Fiori isn't one for playfulness. However, he is one for battles. As the symbol of war (and so held as particularly sacred to the Yuni warriors), Fiori's policy is to rush into battle with his fur blazing before asking many questions. For this reason, his stories are often of battles, tales of brutality, destruction, and glory, much like the wildfires from which he was born.

Name: Fiori
Type: Fire
Species: Brushfire
Height: 6'10"
Weight: 310 lbs.
Gender Ratio: 100% male
Ability: Pressure
Natural Habitat: The plains and badlands of Blanca. He's constantly on the move, however, and thus will not settle for any specific location as long as it's flat.
Behavior: Out of the four, Fiori is probably the closest one could get to a warrior. Proud, vain, and impulsive, it's Fiori's nature to strike first and strike hard. While he has a sense of justice, in his opinion, the entirety of the human race is automatically guilty before proven innocent. Additionally, his temper (which is always quick and easily excitable) often gets in the way of his ability to judge, resulting in a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later.

40: Fire Storm (See below.)
50: Recover
60: Fire Blast
70: Body Slam
80: Calm Mind
90: Aura Sphere

Signature Attack: Fire Storm
Rearing back on his hind legs, Fiori kicks his forelegs towards the opponent to flash his ruby, red hooves. Instantly, both burst into brilliant balls of flame just before Fiori slams the ground with both at once. Fire billows out from beneath his hooves, essentially setting the ground, regardless of the material it's made of (unless it's water or otherwise wet) on fire. In seconds, the flames grow several feet in height as they engulf the arena and everything on it for the remainder of the turn.
Type: Fire | Damage Type: Special | PP: 5 | Acc: 100% | Power: 100 | Effects: Automatically burns the opponent. Accuracy of this move will be reduced by half if used in a wet environment (e.g., when Rain Dance is in play).

Researchers' Entry:
A legendary buck of fire. It is said that wherever Fiori runs, his hooves leave behind flames that quickly grow into Blanca's infamous brushfires.

Description/Image: A large and bulky Pokémon, Fiori's body is mostly muscle, covered in cinnamon-brown fur (with a tan underside that reaches up to his muzzle). His eyes are said to be as black as the ash he leaves in his wake, and the hooves of his long legs – pure ruby. Like a regular deer, he sports a black nose at the end of his muzzle and pointed ears, but his most notable facial feature are the branching, pearl horns extending from both sides of his head into twelve points in all. Additionally, his back and neck are constantly on fire, and the tips of his antlers sport flames that grow and shrink with his moods. (Calmer moods show smaller flames; enraged or excited produce larger ones.) Finally, the small tail on his rump is nothing more than a bright, red flame.

Tikara/"Clay Armadillo"
The last of the guardians was created with the help of her brothers and sister. From the mud and rock that her children gathered carefully, Soona molded and breathed life into her final pillar, Tikara the Clay Armadillo. Immediately, Tikara burrowed into the depths of the earth, where she would rule over the dirt and underground world beneath Blanca.

Although she's the youngest, because she was not born from her mother's power and is therefore not bound by it, she's technically the strongest of the four. However, she's also the least seen and heard from; legends rarely mention her, save to note that she stays away from the quarrels between her brothers and sister by remaining forever in the depths of her winding burrows -- the caves of Blanca.

Name: Tikara
Type: Ground
Species: Earth
Height: 5'02"
Weight: 184 lbs.
Gender Ratio: 100% female
Ability: Pressure
Natural Habitat: The vast cave systems under Blanca. Legend has it that she makes her home specifically at the very end of the Obsidian Caves... wherever that may be.
Behavior: The most enigmatic of all four elemental legendaries, Tikara spends most of her time either sleeping or tunneling under Blanca. She very rarely surfaces, and she almost never gets involved in the affairs of the creatures above the surface of her realm. (In fact, only Hyuni, who apparently doesn't mind her company, actually acknowledges her existence.) As a result, she's said to be more shy, prone to stick to defenses than anything else. However, she's also the most peaceful and mature, one who's more willing to use her powers to break up fights between her siblings than attack anything else. After all, she, with an innocent and patient heart, knows all too well that every action they take has a serious effect on the world above.

30: Earth Power

60: Earthquake
70: Crush Claw
80: Curse
90: Aura Sphere

Signature Attack: Tremor Pillar
Tikara raises her forepaws as her claws take on a deep, purple glow. Then, using both, she drums a beat that steadily grows more rapid and harder until the ground shakes beneath her purple paws. The ground around her cracks, lacing towards the opponent as chunks of earth rise in a line between herself and her victim. Unless the victim reacts before the line reaches it, Tikara slams her paws onto the earth for one last beat, sending a tremor through the earth. The rocks between herself and her opponent shatter, but the ground at the opponent's feet rises up to swallow it in a pillar of rock. Then, Tikara curls into a ball and rolls forward in a quick rush, up the side of the pillar and in a flip over it. In midair above the pillar, she uncurls and thrusts her purple paws downward, to the top of the tower as she falls towards it. Using her weight, she plows through the pillar, grinding it and the victim inside it back into the earth.
Type: Ground | Damage Type: Physical | PP: 5 | Acc: 85% | Power: 100 | Effects: Causes the opponent to flinch. Accuracy is 100% if the opponent is underground.

Researchers' Entry:
Known as the Guardian of Earth to the Yuni, Tikara spends most of her time in the burrows beneath Blanca. It's said that her tunnels extend for hundreds of miles.

Description/Image: Tikara's entire body is deep gray, nearly black, as if to reflect her surroundings. Most of her body is segmented: each plate is smooth and overlaps the plate after it cleanly. Additionally, her body has more of a round shape, much like her origin animal, but from each segment juts at least two rainbow-colored crystals. Her head is long and pointed, with a pair of smaller crystals jutting out where the ears should be and two ruby-red eyes set on the sides. Four small paws, tipped with three sharp claws each, jut out from beneath her armor, and extending from her back is a long tail that ends in four crystal spikes angled out the sides.
